Court hearings by video conference could become an integral part of everyday legal life. On 30.04. the digital changeover was successfully implemented at the Munich Regional Court.

First digital patent dispute

For the first time, the 7th Civil Chamber, which specializes in patent and copyright law, negotiated a patent dispute via video conference. The lawyers and patent attorneys from both sides were present from their offices. The judges were in the courtroom together with the new video conference system.

In Munich, where the noventive headquarters are located, the Regional Court is thus also following the digital wake-up call. In our view, this is a welcome step by the justice authorities to increasingly steer the patent system onto the digital path.

However, the video conference system is only the first step. "Regardless of the current situation, we will continue to push ahead with digitization at the Munich Regional Court," underlines Dr. Andrea Schmidt, President of the Munich Regional Court, in a press release.
